5. Notes and Restrictions

5-1. Notes When Setting Administrator Information in Distribution Destination

If driver distribution is executed by user without Administrator rights, the following services have to be running on the target PC first.

In Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 and Windows 10, if the driver is distributed by user without Administrator rights from Desktop or user-specific folder, driver installation may fail.
In such cases, run the program from a folder where it can be referenced by other users such as a public folder.

5-2. Notes on Print Settings of the Installing Printer

Depending on the model and the options installed on the device, the values that can be configured in the printer driver may differ. Distribution Instruction Maker cannot determine the values that can be configured in the actual printer driver.
When registering the printer to install, select the value that can be set up in the actual printer. If the selected value cannot be set up in the printer driver, the default value in the printer driver will be used.

5-3. Notes on Paper Tray Settings

The high capacity tray is different depending on the tray configuration of the device.
Select High Capacity Tray 1 and High Capacity Tray 2 according to the tray configuration of the device.

5-4. Notes on User ID / Job Owner Name Settings

User ID and job owner name setting item vary by device model.
For details, see "Conversion Specification for Job Owner Name and User ID" in Distribution Instruction Maker's Help.

5-5. Notes on User ID / Job Owner Name Settings

If the driver on the computer where Distribution Instruction Launcher is executed is of a later version than the printer driver to be installed, the printer will not be installed.
On the contrary, if an older driver is installed, the driver installed on the computer will be updated with the driver in the Distribution Instruction Launcher.
If a printer with the same name as the one you are trying to install already exists, a message will appear to confirm the update of printer settings.
If you select "No" for this message, printer settings will not be updated. Instead, the installed printer driver will become the target for update.

5-6. Notes When the Device Is Not Powered Up

When you have installed the printer driver for a device that is offline, the Distribution Instruction Launcher will add the printer without retrieving the configuration information from the device.
In this case, logon as a user with "Printer Administrator" rights and follow the procedure below to retrieve printer configuration.

  1. Open printer properties.
  2. Click [Configuration] tab.
  3. Click the [Get Information From Printer] button.
  4. Click [Apply].

5-7. Notes on Installation Using USB port

To start the installation through a USB port, make sure that the target printer is connected via a USB port ant then it is turned on. If there is no connection with the USB port or the printer is powered off , the installation will fail. (ID#271737)

5-8. Notes When Using in Other Than Japanese Environment

With any language other than Japanese set, please do not use any character other than alphanumeric for a file name in Distribution CD Contents or a folder name to be stored. If these names contain other than alphanumeric, the installation may fail. (ID#271755)

5-9. Notes on Device Options and Settings per Printer Driver

Available print settings vary depending on the printer driver. Please make sure that each setting is properly reflected to the printer driver that you want to use. For more details about settings such as Paper Tray Configuration and Duplex Module, please refer to our web page.(ID#271817/272015)

The setting item to be reflected on [Register/Set Printer to Install] screen depends on the printer driver. Before using, please check the state of reflected items regarding each printer driver settings of the created CD image.(ID#271947/272171/272304)

5-11. Notes When Checking Supported OS per Printer Driver

The supported versions of Windows OS vary from printer driver to printer driver. Before using, make sure that each printer driver that the created CD image contains is applicable to be installed under your intended environment. (ID#271949/271950/272171)

5-12. Notes When Selecting Multiple Installation Software

[Get Printer Information from Printer after Installation] may fail. In this case, specify [Options] appropriately on [Properties Settings ] screen before using. (ID#271950)

When multiple installation software are selected in Distribution Instruction Maker, Distribution Instruction Launcher will run the installation program of the software in the set order.
Depending on the installation program, some may run concurrently.

Some programs may automatically restart the computer in the middle of the installation. It is recommended to perform the installation sequentially until the end.

5-14. Notes When User Without Administrator Rights Is Specified in the System Administrator Settings in Distribution Target

When user with no Administrator rights is set up in the distribution target's System Administrator Settings in Distribution Instruction Maker, the operations by Distribution Instruction Launcher will fail.
Please ensure that the name and password of a user with Administrator rights is entered.

5-15. Notes on Saving CD Image to File Server and Running It

When saving CD image to file server, ensure that you are saving to the shared folder which you have the following read access rights.

You must have both types of access rights to run the Distribution Instruction Launcher.
In this case, copy the CD image to the computer where it is going to be run and run the Distribution Instruction Launcher.

5-16. Notes on Saving Distribution Instruction Maker to File Server and Running It

Help may not appear when you are saving and the Distribution Instruction Maker to the file server and running it.
Please copy the tool to the computer hard disk where it is going to be run.

5-17. Notes on Changing Community Name

If the community name of your printer has changed, do not use the Driver Distributor.
If you want to use the Distributor, please do not change the printer's community name.

5-18. Notes on Personal Firewall Settings

Firewall feature is available in Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10,and some anti-virus software.
If this feature is enabled, it will block the network communication that is required for Driver Distributor. This may cause the problem of connecting to the device.
In such cases, it is necessary to change the setting of your anti-virus software.
However, security level may decrease depending on the setting method. It is the customer's responsibility to make the appropriate settings.

5-19. Notes on Installing Printers Using Guest Account

When printer is installed using the built-in "Guest" account, if the required service status cannot be ascertained in the Driver Distributor's operation, the following error message will appear.
In such cases, log in using another account besides the "Guest" account and run the program again.
"Spooler Service has stopped.
Please start the Spooler Service."

5-20. Notes on Deleting Printer

To delete printer with Driver Distributor, ensure that the target printer is not processing any document.
If the printer is printing documents, even if "Successfully Deleted" is displayed in the [Run Result], the printer may not be deleted. In this case, once the documents are printed or canceled, the printer will be deleted automatically.
Sometimes, the printer port may not be deleted even if the printer is deleted.
If the port is no longer required, follow the procedure below to delete it.

If a different IP address is specified, it will be displayed as the deletion target in [Details] screen.

5-22. Notes on Handling Distribution CD Contents File

Please do not edit the stored Distribution CD Contents file.
Driver Distributor may not work properly if it is edited.

5-23. Notes on Searching Printer in IP Sec Environment

In IP Sec environment, you may not be able to see the target printer under [Network Printers] even if you select [Browse] in [Register Printer to Install] to browse for the printer.
In this case, specify the subnet to search for the device in [Broadcast Address/Multicast Address] in [Search Range], or extend the duration in [Timeout] under [Search Condition] and click [Search] to search again.

5-24. Notes on Searching Printer in IPv6 Environment

To specify a device outside the IPv6 environment over the router, enter its IP address or host name.
When multicast address is specified, the printer will not be displayed in [Network Printers].

5-25. Notes on Items Displayed in [Confirm Details]

In the following situations, items will be displayed as execution contents in the [Confirm Details] screen, which is displayed during driver distribution.

5-26. Notes When the Folder Carrying Driver Distributor Cannot Be Deleted

In Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 or Windows 10, after Distribution Instruction Maker or Distribution Instruction Launcher is executed, the folder containing the tool may not be deleted, moved or renamed.
In this case, end Console IME (conime.exe) in Task Manager.

5-27. Notes on Updating Version of Driver to be Installed

"Contribution" shall mean any work of authorship, including
the original version of the Work and any modifications or additions
to that Work or Derivative Works thereof, that is intentionally
submitted to Licensor for inclusion in the Work by the copyright owner
or by an individual or Legal Entity authorized to submit on behalf of
the copyright owner. For the purposes of this definition, "submitted"
means any form of electronic, verbal, or written communication sent
to the Licensor or its representatives, including but not limited to
communication on electronic mailing lists, source code control systems,
and issue tracking systems that are managed by, or on behalf of, the
Licensor for the purpose of discussing and improving the Work, but
excluding communication that is conspicuously marked or otherwise
designated in writing by the copyright owner as "Not a Contribution."

"Contributor" shall mean Licensor and any individual or Legal Entity
on behalf of whom a Contribution has been received by Licensor and
      subsequently incorporated within the Work.

   2. Grant of Copyright License. Subject to the terms and conditions of
this License, each Contributor hereby grants to You a perpetual,
      worldwide, non-exclusive, no-charge, royalty-free, irrevocable
copyright license to reproduce, prepare Derivative Works of,
publicly display, publicly perform, sublicense, and distribute the
Work and such Derivative Works in Source or Object form.

   3. Grant of Patent License. Subject to the terms and conditions of
this License, each Contributor hereby grants to You a perpetual,
      worldwide, non-exclusive, no-charge, royalty-free, irrevocable
(except as stated in this section) patent license to make, have made,
use, offer to sell, sell, import, and otherwise transfer the Work,
where such license applies only to those patent claims licensable
by such Contributor that are necessarily infringed by their
Contribution(s) alone or by combination of their Contribution(s)
with the Work to which such Contribution(s) was submitted. If You
institute patent litigation against any entity (including a
cross-claim or counterclaim in a lawsuit) alleging that the Work
or a Contribution incorporated within the Work constitutes direct
or contributory patent infringement, then any patent licenses
granted to You under this License for that Work shall terminate
as of the date such litigation is filed.

   4. Redistribution. You may reproduce and distribute copies of the
Work or Derivative Works thereof in any medium, with or without
modifications, and in Source or Object form, provided that You
      meet the following conditions:

      (a) You must give any other recipients of the Work or
Derivative Works a copy of this License; and

      (b) You must cause any modified files to carry prominent notices
stating that You changed the files; and

      (c) You must retain, in the Source form of any Derivative Works
that You distribute, all copyright, patent, trademark, and
attribution notices from the Source form of the Work,
excluding those notices that do not pertain to any part of
          the Derivative Works; and

      (d) If the Work includes a "NOTICE" text file as part of its
distribution, then any Derivative Works that You distribute must
include a readable copy of the attribution notices contained
within such NOTICE file, excluding those notices that do not
pertain to any part of the Derivative Works, in at least one
of the following places: within a NOTICE text file distributed
as part of the Derivative Works; within the Source form or
documentation, if provided along with the Derivative Works; or,
within a display generated by the Derivative Works, if and
wherever such third-party notices normally appear. The contents
of the NOTICE file are for informational purposes only and
do not modify the License. You may add Your own attribution
notices within Derivative Works that You distribute, alongside
or as an addendum to the NOTICE text from the Work, provided
that such additional attribution notices cannot be construed
          as modifying the License.

You may add Your own copyright statement to Your modifications and
may provide additional or different license terms and conditions
for use, reproduction, or distribution of Your modifications, or
for any such Derivative Works as a whole, provided Your use,
reproduction, and distribution of the Work otherwise complies with
the conditions stated in this License.

   5. Submission of Contributions. Unless You explicitly state otherwise,
any Contribution intentionally submitted for inclusion in the Work
by You to the Licensor shall be under the terms and conditions of
this License, without any additional terms or conditions.
Notwithstanding the above, nothing herein shall supersede or modify
the terms of any separate license agreement you may have executed
      with Licensor regarding such Contributions.

   6. Trademarks. This License does not grant permission to use the trade
names, trademarks, service marks, or product names of the Licensor,
except as required for reasonable and customary use in describing the
origin of the Work and reproducing the content of the NOTICE file.

   7. Disclaimer of Warranty. Unless required by applicable law or
agreed to in writing, Licensor provides the Work (and each
Contributor provides its Contributions) on an "AS IS" BASIS,
WITHOUT WARRANTIES OR CONDITIONS OF ANY KIND, either express or
implied, including, without limitation, any warranties or conditions
of TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, MERCHANTABILITY, or FITNESS FOR A
PARTICULAR PURPOSE. You are solely responsible for determining the
appropriateness of using or redistributing the Work and assume any
risks associated with Your exercise of permissions under this License.

   8. Limitation of Liability. In no event and under no legal theory,
whether in tort (including negligence), contract, or otherwise,
unless required by applicable law (such as deliberate and grossly
negligent acts) or agreed to in writing, shall any Contributor be
liable to You for damages, including any direct, indirect, special,
incidental, or consequential damages of any character arising as a
result of this License or out of the use or inability to use the
Work (including but not limited to damages for loss of goodwill,
work stoppage, computer failure or malfunction, or any and all
other commercial damages or losses), even if such Contributor
has been advised of the possibility of such damages.

   9. Accepting Warranty or Additional Liability. While redistributing
the Work or Derivative Works thereof, You may choose to offer,
and charge a fee for, acceptance of support, warranty, indemnity,
or other liability obligations and/or rights consistent with this
License. However, in accepting such obligations, You may act only
on Your own behalf and on Your sole responsibility, not on behalf
of any other Contributor, and only if You agree to indemnify,
defend, and hold each Contributor harmless for any liability
incurred by, or claims asserted against, such Contributor by reason
of your accepting any such warranty or additional liability.

   END OF TERMS AND CONDITIONS

APPENDIX: How to apply the Apache License to your work.

To apply the Apache License to your work, attach the following

replaced with your own identifying information. (Don't include
the brackets!) The text should be enclosed in the appropriate
